I resonate so much with this. I didn't recognize myself as an artist or creative well past the time I should have, largely because no one in my life had ever seen me that way. I was always "the smart one," "the spiritual one," or "the listening ear." But at some point, I realized creativity was interwoven in everything I did, and had been since my preschool years.
It was hard to proclaim it at first when others didn't seem to see me that way, but it was incredibly liberating once I did. You've hit on such an essential truth: no one else gets to tell us who we are; we write our own definitions of ourselves.
